The Different Types of Thongs in Fashion

Ask women about the one piece of clothing that is either loved or hated the most and the thong is often the answer. Although there are lots of strong opinions, the first thing to understand is there are actually a lot of different types of thongs.

A thong is actually a general phrase that generally encompasses a bottom that has little or no coverage in the rear and some form of skimpy string forming the support. It is loved by those who appreciate a look with no panty line. In contrast, it is hated by those who simply cannot get used to the snug feel of the string running front to back. There are many different types of thongs that can blur these lines.

A classic thong is a simple piece of clothing. It has cloth on the rear that runs in a gradual triangle from the back edge of the hips to the center of the rear. The bottom point of this triangle then converts into a string like look and runs to the front of the body. Despite its name, this is one of the less popular choices for women when it comes to thongs.

The g-string is perhaps the most famous of the thongs. Most people use the two names interchangeably, but the g-string is in fact a subset of the general thong category. The average g-string is tiny. It has a band around the hips and a tiny triangle patch of cloth on the back where the band meets the vertical string that runs between the buttocks.. This string is snug, which leads to an uncomfortable sensation for more than a few women.

The t-string is the most aggressive form of the thong. It is a classic example of less is more. In this case, we are talking less coverage. The t-string is essentially a string that runs horizontally around the body at hip level. In the front we find a triangle of clothing covering the pubic area with a string running from it under the buttocks and up to the horizontal band circling the hips. There is no cloth at all in the rear area, which gives the piece its name.

With this variation, you can see that the issues surrounding thongs differ. For instance, a t-string thong is extreme and, for me, very uncomfortable to wear. It is just too intrusive. In contrast, a classic thong has more coverage and is much more comfortable. This tends to be the case with thongs. The more coverage there is in the rear, the more comfortable the fit. The problem, of course, is the more coverage, the more a panty line exists. Is there a best answer? Not really. It is a matter of personal taste and comfort.

Nylon Stockings

As a young lady growing up in the mid 1960's, it was a time of hope, expectation, adventure and dreams. Being given my first pair of nylon stockings for a Christmas present from my Mother and Father was their acknowledgment to me that they now considered me old enough to wear nylon stockings and to be considered an eligible young lady. It was so exciting!

I was a 'bush kid' which means I was a child raised on a Property in the Australian bush. Nothing unusual in that but what was different was that we were heading off on Boxing Day for our annual Christmas holidays and I had my first pair of nylon stockings to wear to the local dances on the coast.

I spent most of that Christmas Day feeling the texture of the nylon stockings as it ran through my fingers and with each slide, I had dreams of meeting and dancing with a very handsome "Mr. Right" whoever he might be. My dreams were as soft and silky as the nylon stockings. Oh the hopes and dreams of a young Australian girl with her first pair of nylon stockings.

Many people particularly young girls may not be aware but at this time all nylon stockings were worn with garter belts or suspenders. There was no such thing as pantyhose or tights. It was either a full corset or suspender belts to hold nylon stockings up.

Pantyhose or tights didn't come into existence in Australia until 1968. The first improvement to holding up stockings was the thigh-high glue-elasticized top which cut off circulation and caused many allergic reactions. Weeks later, the first pantyhose were in the shops.

Now that time has moved on and garter belts and nylon stockings are a discarded thing of my past life, I can look back and still vividly remember the joy in being given my first pair of nylon stockings and the dreams and hopes I had with them. I cherished them immensely and took great care not to snag or ladder them because I knew it would be some time before I got another pair.
